Spring Garden
A distinct district wedged between Center City and Fairmount proper, Spring Garden originated to accommodate wealthy industrialists during the second half of the 19th century. The makeup and major draws of the neighborhood — there are multiple religious and educational institutions here — have changed dramatically since then. Luckily, much of the architecture retains its Victorian glory under historical protection. Bordered by Spring Garden Street to the south, Fairmount Avenue to the north, Pennsylvania Avenue westward and Broad Street to the east, Spring Garden’s charming, sleepy feel is a product of being situated north of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, a bustling boulevard that features Philly’s first-rate Museum Row.
